Coaches

Nat Goodhartz Nat has a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Ohio State University and was a professor at SUNY, Brockport. She has also served as national coach in men's foil, and is currently shares the job of women's national coach. She coached the World Youth Games Team in 1998, Junior Worlds from 1997-2001, US Olympic Festival teams in 1993, 94, and 95, and has coached numerous national champions, the latest being this summer. She is currently coaching 2 Olympic hopefuls.

Colin Clinton Colin graduated from Brandeis University with a degree in psychology. He was the first alternate to the 1993 Men's Foil Cadet World Team. He also qualified four times for the NCAA Championships, taking All- American honors twice.

Elliott Clinton Elliott has been involved with fencing for over 20 years. A three-time USA team member and three-time National Champion, Elliott is dedicated to bringing top class Sabre instruction to RFC. Elliott has trained under some of the best coaches in the world and is excited to bring his knowledge to Rochester.

OUR NEWEST COACHING ADDITION Olympian Iris Zimmermann Iris is best known for setting records in the sport of fencing. Not only was she was the first US fencer to win a world championship medal, she was also the youngest ever to win that medal and the youngest to win a national championships. In 2000, Iris made the Olympic team with her sister Felicia Zimmermann and together they were two points shy of winning the bronze medal for the United States. After two more runs at the Olympics and graduating from Stanford University, Iris is now a fencing coach at the Rochester Fencing Club. We are excited to have our very own Olympian on staff.

Staff

Lisa Lisa is RFC's in house manager and you can meet her at the front desk when you walk in. Besides being an asset to our club, she also keeps our fencing equipment in order by fixing and making orders from Absolute Fencing Gear.

Sue Sue is the owner and operator of Rochester Fencing Club. She has been involved with fencing for over 25 years and all four of her children have fenced (and now two of them are coaching at the club). If you have any fencing questions for her please email her at rochesterfencing@hotmail.com

HANNA THOMPSON QUALIFIES FOR THE 2008 BEIJING OLYMPICS GAMES

Amazing things are happening in Rochester and at the Rochester Fencing Club!

Hanna Thompson, Rochester native, Ohio State graduate, and coached by our very own Nat Goodhartz, has qualified for the US Olympic Team!

She wil be leaving for Beijing on July 31st. Remember that the opening ceremonies begin on August 8, 2008.

RFC is having a reception to congratulate her on her success at Lorraine's Lunch Basket at 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 22nd. The address is 777 Culver Road, below the fencing club and across the street from East High School. Come join us and meet a local Olympian!

Rochester Fencing Club has recently been approved for 501c3 status.

Fencing, one of the original sports in the Olympic Games since it's modern inception in 1886, is a unique and fast growing sport. Athletes, parents, and people involved in fencing have always commented on the sport's ability to teach individuals about self assurance, patience, respect, and personal and social responsibility. The newly formed 501c3, RAFF, is a part of the dream to use fencing as a vehicle to bring these types of qualities to the leaders of tomorrow within the communities in and around the city of Rochester.
