Youth and Teen/Adult Introductory Fencing Series
We offer introductory programs for fencers who have never tried fencing before. There are two different
programs offered. One is for Youth (6-12 yr. olds), and one for Teens/Adults. Each consists of a series of
six sessions that meet once a week. Participants receive instruction in conditioning, basic footwork,
bladework, and will be given the opportunity to fence others (bouting). Please call 654-6047 for information. If a customer service associate does not answer, please leave a message with your number and/or an email so that we may contact you. The fee for each series is $80. All equipment is provided. Participants
need to wear sweatpants, sneakers and a T-shirt.
Youth Program- continuous enrollment
This program is for students who have already been introduced to fencing through our introductory series
or through summer camps or rec. centers. It continues to teach fencing to young people, 6-12, in a fun and
structured environment. The program stresses the child's physical development using strength,
coordination, and flexibility building games. In addition, their listening and concentration skills will improve.
They also continue to receive group instruction in footwork, bladework, and fencing others (bouting).
Students have the opportunity to compete at local competitions. This program meets two times/week,
Tuesday/Thursday, 6:30-7:30PM. Both Foil and Sabre training are available in this program. The fee structure involves a yearly non-refundable membership fee of
$100, and a monthly fee of $100. There is also a 10 class punchcard available for $150. All equipment is provided, but students are encouraged to eventually
purchase their own. Individual, private lessons are available for $35 each for a 20-minute lesson.
Teen/Adult Open Fencing- continuous enrollment
This program is for students who have already been introduced to fencing through our introductory series
or through some other structured fencing instruction, such as school programs. Students receive group
instruction in footwork and bladework, emphasizing technical and tactical skills, and bouting. Epee, Foil and Sabre are all available for training in this program. This program
meets twice per week, Tuesday and Thursday, 8-9:30PM. The fee structure involves a yearly
non-refundable membership fee of $100 and a monthly fee of $75. There is also a 10 class punchcard available for $120. All equipment is provided, but students
are encouraged to eventually purchase their own. Individual, private lessons are available for $35 each for
a 20-minute lesson.
Intermediate Program
This program focuses on students who are choosing to be competitive fencers. Students will be assigned
a personal coach from our staff, and their training will intensify, especially in technical and tactical skills.
The fencer attends local, regional and national competitions. Students interested in this program should
talk to their recreational coach to be evaluated as to eligibility to enter this program.
Pre-Elite & Elite Program
RFC qualified five members to the 1996 Olympics and four to the 2000 Olympics. We have produced two World Champions, and our students have won numerous team and individual national championships.
The Pre-Elite and Elite Programs are designed for athletes with those goals in mind. Group training
sessions meet 4 days a week, focusing extensively on footwork, competitive bouting, technical and tactical
skills. A minimum of three to four private lessons are included. National and international competitions are
scheduled. This program is by invitation only.
